Becoming a Host

We believe that one connection has the power to change the world. When you volunteer to host a foreign exchange student, you’ll gain a new brother or sister for your child, a son or daughter, a grandchild. The new energy and understanding that fills your home will initiate a ripple effect that extends to the local school, community, and ultimately the world.

As an Iterlingua host family, you will offer an open-minded and hardworking student the opportunity to:

Host an exchange student and give to the opportunity to experience while gaining a new family member in your home.

Why Should I Host With Iterlingua?

Iterlingua is a leader in high school foreign exchange, with over 5 years of experience. Our success is driven by a belief in the importance of building strong relationships with our participants and we provide several layers of support to make sure everyone’s year is positive and unforgettable. Our local, regional and national staff all share the same passion for cultural exchange and are available to answer the smallest questions and handle the toughest problems so that you can focus on the most important and rewarding work: introducing a foreign student

Iterlingua is a non-profit organization founded in 2013 to promote global learning and leadership through cultural exchange, volunteer and leadership programs for high school students from around the world. Iterlingua has provided students with an invaluable perspective on other cultures and a more profound understanding of their important role in the global community by allowing them to experience another culture and share their culture with a new community.

Our host families and students build life-long relationships and give one another the experience of a lifetime.

Who Can Host a Student?

There is no such thing as a “typical” Iterlingua host family. Whether you live in a rural or urban community, and regardless of the size of your family, you can volunteer to host an Iterlingua international student.

As an Iterlingua Host Family, we ask that you provide:

Should I host someone the same age as my own kids?

Hosting foreign exchange student is rewarding for people of many ages – from small children to grandparents. If you have young children, they will gain an older sibling, exposing your little ones to a new language and culture they’ll likely appreciate for a lifetime. Your pre-teens and teens will benefit from having a new friend/sibling close in age and gaining a new view of their school and ways of life through the eyes of someone from another culture. For parents who recently sent their own children off to college, hosting student is a way to stay connected to your community and students often gain wonderful perspective from their host parent’s point of view.

The Benefits of Hosting an Exchange Student

For some families, hosting an exchange student adds an exciting new dynamic to their family life, others love the new perspectives that students infuse into their homes and communities. No matter your motivation, you can be sure you are making a difference in our world through your hosting experience.

As host family you will:
